Year Released
2010. Released during a major revitalisation of LEGO's original action/adventure IP, following the Power Miners era.
Rarity
Common to Uncommon. While easily accessible in 2010, the short lifespan of the Atlantis theme (2 years) means these figures are becoming harder to find in mint condition.
Head
Yellow head with brown eyebrows, a slight smirk, and a black headset with a microphone on the right side. Design ID: 3626bpb436.
Torso
Dark blue torso with Atlantis 'A' logo on the left chest. Lime green and black mechanical/suit detailing with a silver utility belt. Hands are Dark Bluish Gray.
Legs
Dark blue legs with silver belt printing, black leg straps, and a printed ID card/badge on the left hip representing his rank/role.
Accessories
Missing in image. Originally came with a dark gray diver's helmet with a trans-neon yellow visor and oxygen tanks.
Color Scheme
Dark Blue primary with Lime Green accents and Silver/Dark Bluish Gray secondary tones to match the Atlantis tech aesthetic.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on torso (front/back) and legs (front). The ID badge printing is exceptionally fine, showcasing LEGO's improved precision in the early 2010s.
Variants
Axel Storm has a variant with different gear (atl015) and appeared in some sets with different facial expressions or hair pieces rather than the diving helmet.
Condition Notes
Main wear points include the silver belt printing which is prone to scratching. Check for arm cracks near the torso and neck wear from the oxygen tank accessory.
Estimated Value
Used (loose): $2.00 - $4.00. New/Mint: $6.00 - $10.00. The figure in the photo is incomplete (missing gear), lowering value to approximately $1.50.
Price (New)
Retail context: Sets ranged from $6.99 (8056 Monster Crab Clash) to $99.99 (8078 Portal of Atlantis). Axel was a common repeating character.
Compatible Sets
Set 8059: Seabed Scavenger, Set 8075: Neptune Carrier, Set 8078: Portal of Atlantis, Set 8080: Undersea Explorer.
Character Background
Axel Storm is the lead pilot and technician of the Atlantis salvage crew. Known in the lore for his expert navigation through the deep-sea trenches.
Design Notes
The use of Dark Blue and Lime Green was a departure from the traditional yellow/black or orange/black divers of the late 90s (Divers/Stingrays/Alpha Team).
Similar Minifigures
Captain Ace Speedman (atl003), Dr. Jeff Fisher (atl010), and Bobby Buoy (atl005) from the same theme.
Collectibility
Moderate. High nostalgia value for those who grew up in the 2010s, but currently undervalued compared to Space or Castle themes.
History
Launched in 2010 to replace Mars Mission and Power Miners as the primary action-adventure theme; it was one of the first themes to heavily feature a mobile app/website interactive tie-in.
Interesting Facts
The Atlantis logo ('A') was designed to look like a stylized diving bell and a Greek letter Alpha, tying into the ancient city lore.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed with other Atlantis crew members in an underwater MOC or next to the 'Treasure Keys' found in the sets. UV protection is important for the lime green prints.
Modification Potential
Excellent for SCI-FI MOCs. The torso doesn't have skin-specific printing on the neck, making it easy to swap with different colored heads or alien species.
Overall Assessment
A solid, well-designed figure from a fan-favorite era. While currently common, his unique suit print makes him a great addition to any sci-fi or underwater collection.
