Battle Droid Pilot with Blue Torso Insignia (Old Style)

Figure ID

sw0001c

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

1999 (Set 7141), 2002 (Set 7103)

Rarity

Uncommon. While widely available in early Star Wars sets, it is becoming rarer to find in good condition due to the fragile nature of the vintage tan plastic.

Head

Standard Battle Droid head mold in Tan with dark blue/greenish-blue printing on the front face area denoting 'Pilot' status. Features an elongated snout and unprinted top.

Torso

Standard mechanical Battle Droid torso. This variant features a Tan base with an Olive Green or Dark Blue-Green printed insignia covering the chest area. Arms are Tan with one horizontal and one vertical clip.

Legs

Standard Tan Battle Droid legs. These are a single-piece mold connecting both feet to a central hinge. They lack printing and rely on friction for posing.

Accessories

None shown in the image, but typically paired with a standard black megaphone blaster or a newer DC-15S blaster (post-2007).

Color Scheme

Primary color is Tan (Bricklink: Tan / LBG: Sand Yellow) with dark blue-green or teal accents on the head and torso.

Printing Details

Low-resolution pad printing typical of the late 90s. The blue/green block on the torso is a solid fill, and the face print is a simple wrap-around band.

Variants

The sw0001a has a darker blue; sw0001c features a more teal/olive-green tint often found in the 7141 Naboo Fighter set. Later versions (sw0300) use the modern 2-arm-vertical mold.

Condition Notes

High risk of brittle plastic. Watch for 'heel cracks' on the feet, snapped clips on the torso where the arms attach, and loose head joints. Tan plastic from this era can yellow if exposed to sunlight.

Estimated Value

Used: $2.50 - $4.00 USD; New (taken from sealed set): $6.00 - $10.00 USD. Value is heavily dependent on the rigidness of the arm clips.

Price (New)

Included in sets ranging from $10.00 (Jedi Duel) to $25.00 (Naboo Fighter) in the early 2000s. Not sold as a standalone figure.

Compatible Sets

7141 Naboo Fighter (1999), 7103 Jedi Duel (2002).

Character Background

OOM-series battle droid pilots were used by the Trade Federation and later the CIS to pilot starfighters, tanks, and transport craft. They were programmed with slightly more independence than standard infantry units.

Design Notes

One of the first 10 LEGO Star Wars minifigures ever produced. The mold has remained largely unchanged for over 20 years, making it one of the most consistent designs in LEGO history.

Similar Minifigures

sw0001 (Standard Battle Droid), sw0004 (Battle Droid Commander), sw0018 (Security Battle Droid - Red).

Collectibility

Medium. Essential for collectors of the '99-02 vintage Star Wars era. High 'army building' potential, though collectors now prefer the sturdier modern versions.

History

Debuted in the inaugural 1999 LEGO Star Wars wave. This specific variant represents the very first step in 'specialized' droid printing before the introduction of Geonosian or Clone Wars variants.

Interesting Facts

The 'sw0001' ID number marks this character type as the very first entry in the LEGO Star Wars database, signifying its importance in the launch of the theme.

Display Suggestions

Display in a Trade Federation MTM or Naboo hangar scene. Use a transparent 1x2 plate for stability as these figures are notoriously prone to falling over.

Modification Potential

Commonly used for MOCs. Arms can be swapped for modern 'vertical grip' arms to allow the droid to hold a blaster correctly (two-handed).

Overall Assessment

A nostalgic 7/10. While fragile and simply printed, it represents the dawn of LEGO Star Wars and remains a staple for completionist collectors of the Episode I era.
