Overlord (Legacy Edition)

Figure ID

njo510

Theme

Ninjago

Year Released

2019 (Released in set 70666)

Rarity

Uncommon. While exclusive to one specific set, that set was a high-volume retail product, making him widely available during its shelf life.

Head

Black head with a two-part print: the right side (minifigure's perspective) features a silver mechanical robotic eye and circuits, while the left side features a red glowing eye with a jagged white mouth line. It is single-sided.

Torso

Black torso featuring extensive mechanical printing. The design includes a circular translucent-red 'power core' in the center, silver mechanical ribbing/pipes, and purple flame-like or energy wisps. The left arm is flat silver, while the right arm is black.

Legs

Plain black legs without printing. This is standard for this specific variant of the Overlord character.

Accessories

The original figure comes with a black neck bracket with 4 bar attachments (to simulate extra arms) and translucent purple power bursts or katanas. The figure in the image is currently missing these attachments.

Color Scheme

Black, Silver, Purple, and Dark Red. The palette is designed to look menacing and corrupted, consistent with the character's 'Digital' and 'Ancient' villainy themes.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on the head and torso. The silver ink has a slightly metallic sheen. The purple accents provide a high-contrast pop against the black plastic background.

Variants

This is the 'Legacy' version. Other versions include the 'Golden Master' (njo132) with a gold mask, and the 'Overlord' from the Crystalized wave which features a much more elaborate, translucent purple head/ribcage mold.

Condition Notes

The silver printing on the torso is prone to scratching if played with heavily. The flat silver arm can sometimes show stress marks at the shoulder socket. The black plastic shows dust and fingerprints easily.

Character Background

The Overlord is the ultimate manifestation of evil in the Ninjago universe and the creator of the Stone Army. He is the archenemy of Lloyd Garmadon and first appeared in the 'Rebooted' season as a digital virus before attempting to regain physical form.

Design Notes

The use of a mismatched silver arm is a design choice to represent the character's asymmetrical, partially reconstructed mechanical form. This Legacy version streamlines the design for modern parts compatibility.

Similar Minifigures

General Kozu (njo073), Digital Overlord (njo095), and Pythor (njo130).

Collectibility

Moderate. He is a 'must-have' for completionists of the Ninjago Legacy line and fans of the show's primary antagonists, though his value is kept stable by the high volume of the parent set.

History

First appearing in 2013, the Overlord has been reimagined several times. This 2019 version was part of the 'Legacy' initiative which updated classic Ninjago characters with modern printing standards and higher detail.

Interesting Facts

The red eye design on this figure is meant to mirror the design of the 'Nindroids' from Season 3, signifying his control over the mechanical army.

Display Suggestions

Display alongside 'Golden Lloyd' from the same set to recreate their final battle. A backlight can catch the red printing in the eyes to give them a glowing effect.

Modification Potential

Excellent for cyberpunk MOCs. The mechanical torso is a favorite for custom 'Terminator' figures or futuristic cyborg scouts.

Overall Assessment

A solid, detailed antagonist figure from one of LEGO's most successful home-grown themes. While currently missing its back attachments, the base prints are in good condition and make it a worthwhile piece for any Ninjago collection.
