Year Released
2015 - Debuted January 1st as part of the Series 13 blind bag collection. This era saw LEGO embracing lighthearted, 'costumed character' minifigures which quickly became fan favorites.
Rarity
Uncommon. While widely produced during its initial run, it was one of the most sought-after figures in Series 13 (packed only 3 per box of 60), making it harder to find in the secondary market today.
Head
Standard yellow minifigure head with a wide, toothy grin and raised eyebrows. No dual-sided printing. The head is partially obscured by the large hot dog suit element.
Torso
Plain tan/beige torso with yellow hands and tan arms. The torso is intentionally simple as it is meant to be covered by the hot dog suit piece.
Legs
Medium Blue unprinted legs. The color serves as a neutral 'pants' look beneath the long costume element.
Accessories
Includes the iconic large molded Hot Dog Suit piece, which features a dark red sausage with a yellow mustard squiggle and a tan bun. In the original blind bag, it also came with a 4x3 black display stand.
Color Scheme
A mix of Dark Red, Tan, and Yellow (for the food element), contrasted against Medium Blue legs. The mustard detail is a bright Flame Yellowish Orange.
Printing Details
Minimal on the body. High-quality pad printing on the Hot Dog Suit accessory for the mustard squiggle. The facial print is sharp and expressive, typical of 2015 CMF standards.
Variants
This specific Series 13 version is the original. Later variants include a 'Hot Dog Man' in the LEGO Batman Movie (sh351) with a different face and 'Wiener Wagon' vendors in City sets with various facial expressions.
Condition Notes
The Hot Dog Suit is subject to 'play wear' scratches on the dark red sausage area. The mustard print can sometimes rub off with heavy use. Check for 'neck stress' on the suit's interior mounting point.
Estimated Value
Used: $5 - $8 USD; New (Sealed in bag): $12 - $18 USD. Prices have stabilized as the figure is widely recognized as a 'classic' CMF.
Price (New)
Original MSRP was $3.99 USD in 2015 per blind bag.
Compatible Sets
71008 Collectible Minifigures Series 13. While the parts appear in various forms, this specific head/leg combo is unique to the Series 13 release.
Character Background
Hot Dog Guy is a classic 'Costume Suit' character. In LEGO lore (and The LEGO Movie video games), he is often portrayed as an enthusiastic, slightly awkward individual who loves his job promoting food.
Design Notes
The Hot Dog Suit was a revolutionary new mold in 2015. It has since become a staple piece for food-themed MOCs and has been recolored for other types of food characters (like the Corn Cob Guy).
Similar Minifigures
Banana Guy (Series 16), Pizza Costume Guy (Series 19), Corn Cob Guy (Series 17), and Pea Pod Girl (Series 20).
Collectibility
High. Costumed characters are among the most collected sub-groups in the CMF line. It is considered a 'foundational' piece for any food-suit collection.
History
Before this figure, hot dogs were only represented by the small 1x1 sausage piece. This was the first time LEGO scaled the food up to a full-body costume, marking a trend in 'oversized food' suits.
Interesting Facts
The Hot Dog Suit piece is tall enough that the minifigure cannot fit into many standard-height LEGO vehicles while wearing it. It is one of the most 'memed' minifigures in the LEGO community.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed in a CMF shadow box or as part of a boardwalk/fairground scene. It pairs perfectly with the 10244 Fairground Mixer or the 60150 Pizza Van.
Modification Potential
The suit can be placed on almost any standard minifigure head to create a variety of different 'Hot Dog' vendors or mascot characters.
Overall Assessment
A 5-star classic. Its simple but effective design, combined with the humor it adds to any display, makes it a must-have for LEGO fans. Excellent value-for-money despite secondary market appreciation.
