Rarity

Double-sided yellow/tan head with lion facial features including fangs and a red scarred eyebrow. Includes a molded tan and dark brown Lion mask/mane headpiece.

Torso

Tan with detailed muscular lion printing, a blue 'CHI' orb in the center, and a red harness. Dark blue belt and gold buckle detailing.

Legs

Tan legs with dark blue and gold printing. Features toe/claw prints at the base and intricate 'skirt' or plating printing on the hips.

Accessories

Royal Valious sword (gold hilt with translucent blue or red blade) and a dark blue cloth cape. Seen in the image with various CHI-powered staff and sword configurations.

Color Scheme

A mix of Tan, Dark Blue, and Gold, intended to represent the noble and royal status of the Lion Tribe.

Printing Details

High quality pad printing on the torso front and back, as well as complex leg printing. Chima figures were known for more printing density than standard City figures of the time.

Condition Notes

Common wear points include fraying on the cloth cape and 'clutch' issues with the rubberized tips of certain mane molds. Check for gold paint rubbing off on the chest.

Character Background

Laval is the crown prince of the Lion Tribe and the primary protagonist of the Legends of Chima series, known for his friendship with Cragger the Crocodile.

Design Notes

The Chima line introduced highly specialized dual-molded headpieces that fit over standard minifigure heads to create animalistic profiles without new head molds.

Similar Minifigures

Lagravis (his father), Longtooth, and Leonidas. Also shares design DNA with Thundercats-style anthropomorphic figures.

Collectibility

High for collectors of '00s/'10s action themes. Chima has a strong secondary market among fans of animal-humanoid designs and fantasy lore.

History

Launched in 2013 as a successor to Ninjago's temporary retirement, Chima was a massive multimedia push including a TV show and specialized parts.

Interesting Facts

Laval's name is a play on the word 'lava' or 'lion'. His sword, the Valious, is one of the most iconic weapons from the Chima theme.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed with the rest of the Lion Tribe council or within a 70010 Lion CHI Temple MOC. Use blue translucent studs to simulate falling CHI.

Modification Potential

The head mane is highly popular for 'Thundercat' MOCs or general D&D Tabaxi character creations.

Overall Assessment

The definitive hero of the Chima era. Excellent printing and a unique silhouette make it a standout piece of LEGO's experimental mid-2010s era.
