Homer Simpson - Series 2 (Sleepy / ID Badge)

Figure ID

sim028 / colsim2-1

Theme

The Simpsons / Collectible Minifigures

Year Released

2015 - Released as part of the second wave of Simpsons blind bags following the massive success of the first series and the 71006 Simpsons House.

Rarity

Uncommon. While mass-produced in the blind bag series, it has been retired for nearly a decade, making it harder to find in mint condition compared to standard City or Star Wars figures.

Head

Molded specialty head (non-traditional minifigure shape) featuring Homer's 5 o'clock shadow in brown, half-closed 'sleepy' or bored eyes, and two molded hairs on top with 'M' shapes over the ears.

Torso

White short-sleeved shirt with dual-molded arms (white over yellow). Printing includes a pink and orange striped tie and a blue Sector 7-G safety inspector ID badge.

Legs

Medium Blue standard legs, unprinted, representing Homer's work trousers.

Accessories

In its original blind bag (71009), the figure included a 2x2 printed 'donut' tile and a 1x1 round plate 'donut' piece. (Missing in current image).

Color Scheme

Primary colors include White and Medium Blue. Accents of Yellow (skin), Brown (stubble), and Pink/Orange (tie).

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on the torso. The ID badge features a tiny representation of a minifigure face. Dual-molded arms were a premium feature at the time for this series.

Variants

Multiple variants exist: the Series 1 version (wide eyes/no tie), the 71006 House version (classic work shirt/no badge), and the Dimensions Level Pack version (with Duff beer).

Condition Notes

The molded head is rubbery/plastic and can attract dust or scuffs. Check for 'bite marks' on the head and neck cracks on the white torso. Dual-molded arms are generally durable.

Estimated Value

Used: $5.00 - $8.00 USD. New (sealed bag): $12.00 - $18.00 USD. Value is stable but doesn't reach the highs of Mr. Burns or Waylon Smithers.

Price (New)

Originally $3.99 USD per blind bag in 2015.

Compatible Sets

71009 The Simpsons Series 2 - Collectible Minifigures. Highly compatible with 71016 The Kwik-E-Mart and 71006 The Simpsons House.

Character Background

Homer Jay Simpson, the safety inspector at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. This specific look captures his apathy and lack of sleep while at work.

Design Notes

LEGO created unique head molds for the Simpsons line to preserve the 2D aesthetic of the show, a departure from the traditional cylindrical minifigure head.

Similar Minifigures

Series 1 Homer (colsim-1), Grampa Simpson (colsim-11), and Smithers (sim030).

Collectibility

High for fans of the show. The Simpsons theme was short-lived (only two CMF series and two large sets), making the entire collection highly sought after by completionists.

History

This figure marks the second and final iteration of Homer in the Collectible Minifigure line before the license went dormant for LEGO.

Interesting Facts

The 'M' and 'G' molded into the hair and ears of the head sculpt are a tribute to series creator Matt Groening's signature.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed in a CMF case or alongside a MOC of a nuclear power plant control console.

Modification Potential

The torso with the ID badge is excellent for custom office-themed MOCs or generic white-collar workers.

Overall Assessment

An iconic representation of Homer's work life. While not the most expensive figure in the line, it is essential for any Simpsons fan. Quality: 9/10.
