Figure ID

Theme
DC Super Heroes / Batman
Year Released
2006. Debuted in Set 7779 (The Batman Dragster) and Set 7780 (The Batboat: Hunt for Killer Croc) during LEGO's first official DC Batman licensing wave.
Rarity
Uncommon/Rare. It is highly sought after by collectors of the 'OG' Batman line. Unlike modern common variants, this specific color palette was only produced for a short window during the mid-2000s.
Head
Single-sided print on light nougat skin. Features a white headband (to represent eyes when the cowl is on) and a grim expression. It includes the Dark Blue cowl (mold 3991p01) with short ears.
Torso
Light Bluish Gray torso with Light Bluish Gray arms and Dark Blue hands. Printing features a black and yellow bat logo inside an oval, muscular definition, and a yellow utility belt. The back is unprinted.
Legs
Light Bluish Gray legs with a Dark Blue hip piece. No printing on the legs or sides.
Accessories
Dark Blue spongy fabric cape with 2 holes. While the cape in the image appears frayed, the original came with a clean-cut cape. No weapons are visible in the photo, but the figure originally included Batarangs.
Color Scheme
Primary colors are Light Bluish Gray and Dark Blue, accented with yellow on the utility belt and logo. This 'blue and gray' look is a direct homage to the Silver Age of DC Comics.
Printing Details
Pad printing on the torso front and head. High contrast yellow on the utility belt. Note that 2006 printing is slightly thicker than modern digital prints, leading to better durability over time but fewer fine details.
Variants
The 'bat001' variant is nearly identical but features a black mask/hands/cape. Later versions (2012+) transitioned to different suit designs and flesh-toned heads with dual-sided printing.
Condition Notes
The cape in the photo shows significant fraying and wear. Common issues include 'cracking' on the torso sides under the armpits and loose hip joints. The dark blue cowl is prone to teeth marks if handled by children.
Estimated Value
Used (Complete with cape): $20 - $35 USD. In the frayed condition shown, the value drops to approximately $15 - $20 USD. Mint condition examples can fetch over $45 USD.
Price (New)
Original retail sets containing this figure ranged from $10.00 (7779) to $20.00 (7780). The figure now exceeds the original cost of its smallest set.
Compatible Sets
7779 The Batman Dragster: Catwoman's Pursuit (2006), 7780 The Batboat: Hunt for Killer Croc (2006), 7782 The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault (2006).
Character Background
Representing Bruce Wayne in a classic 1970s/80s comic aesthetic. This was the first era of LEGO Batman, preceding the 'Dark Knight' film-inspired black suits and the modern DC Super Heroes branding.
Design Notes
Uses the first-generation Batman cowl mold which features shorter 'ears' compared to modern variants. This era transitioned from yellow 'classic' minifigure heads to 'flesh' tones for licensed characters.
Similar Minifigures
bat001 (Black version), bat005 (Bat-Suit with blue wings), and modern SH132 (Arctic Batman) which uses a similar blue/gray palette.
Collectibility
High. The 2006 Batman sets are considered the 'Golden Age' for many collectors. The blue-cowl variant is particularly nostalgic for those who played the original LEGO Batman Video Game (2008).
History
This figure marked LEGO's return to superhero themes after the early 2000s Spider-Man sets. It defined the look of the character for a generation before the 2012 'DC Universe' reboot.
Interesting Facts
This specific figure design was the digital avatar used for Player 1 in the original TT Games 'LEGO Batman' video game. The Dark Blue color was chosen to make the figure stand out against the dark backgrounds of the sets.
Display Suggestions
Display alongside the 2006 Catwoman (bat003) or Joker (bat005) to recreate the iconic first-wave box art scenes. Use a UV-protected case as light gray plastic can yellow over time.
Modification Potential
Excellent torso for creating custom Silver Age 'Adam West' style Batman figures or classic Robin MOCs using the gray base. The cape is easily replaceable with modern starched fabric versions.
Overall Assessment
Rating: 8.5/10. A legendary minifigure that represents the birth of LEGO's long-standing relationship with DC. Despite the frayed cape in the image, the figure remains a cornerstone of any serious Batman collection.
