Clone Trooper Commander Cody (Phase 1) - Orange Visor

Figure ID

sw0196

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

2008 and 2011

Rarity

Uncommon to Rare. While not extremely scarce, Phase 1 Cody is highly sought after by collectors as he only appeared in two sets during the peak of The Clone Wars hype.

Head

Standard 'Clone Wars' style face with large stylized eyes and a determined expression. It is a light flesh tone with unique yellowish orange visor goggles printed directly onto the forehead/eye area.

Torso

Phase 1 Clone Trooper armor with orange markings on the chest and arms. Black hands representing gloves. Includes back armor printing and fine mechanical detailing representative of the animated series aesthetic.

Legs

White legs with orange and grey printing on the front of the legs and hips. Features the kama (skirt) printing and knee plate details specific to Commander Cody’s Phase 1 gear.

Accessories

Usually paired with a DC-15S blaster carbine or a DC-15A blaster rifle. Also originally comes with a metallic silver radio/antenna piece attached to the shoulder, though it is missing in this user image.

Color Scheme

Mainly White and Bright Orange with Black and Light Bluish Gray accents. The orange identifies him as the leader of the 212th Attack Battalion.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing typical of the late 2000s. Includes chest, hip, and leg printing. The face printing includes the distinctive translucent-style yellow visor which is a highlight of this figure.

Variants

There are no major printing variants of sw0196, but Cody received a significantly different Phase 2 update in 2022 (sw1193) which included a physical visor mold and dual-molded arms.

Condition Notes

Common wear points include torso cracks under the arms and fading of the orange leg printing. In this image, the figure appears to be missing its official hair/helmet and shoulder antenna.

Estimated Value

Used: $25 - $40 USD. New/Mint: $50 - $70 USD. The value has remained steady due to the character's immense popularity despite the newer Phase 2 version release.

Price (New)

Originally released in set 7676 ($119.99) and later in 7959 ($24.99). As a standalone value, it has tripled since the retail availability of the cheaper set.

Compatible Sets

7676 Republic Attack Gunship (2008) and 7959 Geonosian Starfighter (2011).

Character Background

CC-2224, known as Cody, served as the commander of the 212th Attack Battalion under General Obi-Wan Kenobi. He is famous for his tactical brilliance and his ultimate betrayal of Kenobi during Order 66.

Design Notes

This version uses the 'Clone Wars' stylized eyes which were controversial among fans but have since become nostalgic. The printing is meant to mimic the CGI animation style of the 2008 TV show.

Similar Minifigures

Captain Rex (sw0194), Clone Trooper Phase 1 (sw0201), and the modern Phase 2 Commander Cody (sw1193).

Collectibility

High. Commander Cody is one of the most iconic clones in the Star Wars mythos. Collectors of the 212th Battalion or 'The Clone Wars' era consider this an essential piece.

History

This figure marked the first time LEGO produced a named Clone Commander with unique character-specific leg and head printing, paving the way for the Captain Rex and Commander Wolffe figures.

Interesting Facts

The orange visor on the head is printed in a way that allows it to 'peer' through the slit of a standard Phase 1 helmet if aligned correctly, though he is often displayed without a helmet in his 'briefing' look.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi and standard 212th Attack Battalion troopers. Use a translucent blue 1x1 round plate to simulate a hologram message in his hand.

Modification Potential

Often used for custom 'unmasked' clone dioramas. Many fans replace the head with a modern 'realistic' Temuera Morrison head to make it fit with modern LEGO Star Wars sets.

Overall Assessment

A classic 'Golden Era' Clone Wars minifigure. While the art style is specific to that time period, the printing detail and character importance make it a standout 9/10 for Star Wars collectors.
