Theme

Back to the Future / Dimensions

Year Released

2013 (Ideas) / 2015 (Dimensions)

Rarity

Uncommon. Originally exclusive to the CUUSOO/Ideas set, it was later re-released in a Dimensions Fun Pack, making it more accessible to collectors than the exclusive Marty McFly variants.

Head

Double-sided head; one side features a shocked/scared expression, the other a smiling expression with prominent age lines and white eyebrows. Light flesh tone.

Torso

White hazmat/radiation jumpsuit with detailed printing including a tool belt, a black remote control device with a red digital readout, pens in a pocket, and a lime green shirt collar underneath.

Legs

Plain white unprinted legs with a white hip piece. High accuracy to the clean jumpsuit aesthetic of the Twin Pines Mall scene.

Accessories

In set 21103 he included a remote control and wrench. In Dimensions 71230 he included a remote. The hair piece is a unique 'mad scientist' mold in White (Part 15500).

Color Scheme

Primary: White. Accents: Lime green, silver, orange, and black. This reflects the radiation safety gear worn during the first time-travel experiment.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on the torso (front and back) and head. The torso features intricate details like the digital numbers on the remote and the texture of the belt.

Variants

There is a 1955 version (dim041) with a silver jacket and a 2015 version (bttf004) with a yellow trench coat from the DeLorean UCS set.

Condition Notes

The white plastic is highly susceptible to yellowing if exposed to UV light. The hair mold has thin points that can collect dust or show stress marks if stepped on.

Estimated Value

Used: $15 - $22 USD. New: $25 - $35 USD. Prices vary based on whether the original hairpiece and double-sided head are present and in good condition.

Price (New)

The Ideas set 21103 retailed for $34.99; the Dimensions Fun Pack 71230 retailed for $14.99.

Compatible Sets

21103 The DeLorean Time Machine (2013), 71230 Doc Brown Fun Pack (2015).

Character Background

Dr. Emmett 'Doc' Brown, the eccentric inventor of the DeLorean Time Machine from the Back to the Future trilogy, portrayed by Christopher Lloyd.

Design Notes

The hair piece was a new mold specifically created for this character to capture his iconic 'wild' hair look. The torso print is a faithful recreation of his 1985 outfit.

Similar Minifigures

Marty McFly (bttf001), Doc Brown (Yellow Trench Coat), Series 4 Mad Scientist, various LEGO City Chemists.

Collectibility

High. Anything related to 80s nostalgia and Back to the Future remains a staple for LEGO collectors and movie buffs alike.

History

Initially released as part of the 4th community-voted LEGO Ideas (then CUUSOO) set. It marked the first collaboration between LEGO and Universal Pictures for this IP.

Interesting Facts

The remote on his torso actually shows a timestamp. The hairpiece used here has since been repurposed for other 'crazy' characters in the LEGO City and Ninjago lines.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed next to the 21103 DeLorean or inside a dedicated Dimensions display frame with the accompanying Marty McFly figure.

Modification Potential

The head is popular for 'Custom' figures of senior citizens or historical figures. The white jumpsuit torso is often used for custom MOCs of scientists or astronauts.

Overall Assessment

9/10. A perfect likeness of a legendary cinematic character. Essential for any '80s pop culture collection or LEGO Ideas enthusiast.
